Story

I have long been somewhat of an amateur musicologist. For over 30 years I've worked in the music world as a radio and TV show host as well as a Producer of Festivals, special events, concerts , other peoples recordings and instructional materials.

Recently, I have begun to dig through my archives and have found stuff I feel worthy of posting. Many of the folks involved are gone. I love to play music most of all, but this other stuff is fun, too, and I have been blessed to have so many fortunate encounters.

Many old friends and mentors are featured in the items below. I thank them for the inspiration.

I'll be adding items as I have time ( it takes awhile to digitize these things) so have a look around and enjoy. I'd love to hear from you if any of this stuff has any meaning to you. Drop me a note at dougcox@shaw.ca and let me know what you think.

Story

I did this interview for my radio show at CJSR in Edmonton, Alberta, sometime in the early 80s. My co-host was also my good friend, mentor and boss when I worked for the Edmonton Folk Festival , Nelson Whalen.

Bob was an amazing singer/songwriter from Canada who never really got his due before he passed away. He should have been one of those Artists from the 70s/80s who became Iconic!

Dan Hicks and The Hot Licks with Slide To Freedom

Story

It was such a thrill to perform Dan Hicks 'I Scare Myself' with Dan Hicks himself with the Hotlicks and Slide to Freedom. This live version was recorded in 2010 at Vancouver Island MusicFest.

Slide To Freedom recorded another version of this great song on our second CD, Make A Better World, with John Boutte as our guest vocalist!

I was putting together a Podcast in 2010 with some of my favorite musicians - here's one that delves into my ol' buddy Amos Garrett's history in quite a bit of detail.
